Looking for books with dragon protagonists

Hello all! I'm looking for suggestions of books with dragon protagonists. I'm more interested in dragon-dragon interaction than dragons and their riders or whatever, although I don't mind those... I'd especially be interested in books that have ONLY dragons and no humans whatsoever. The dragons can be "good" or "evil" or neither in particular, really the fact that the dragon is the main focus is the only thing I'm looking for. Thanks in advance!

Jo Walton has a dragons only novel in a victorian setting named Tooth and claw.
Dragonhaven by Robin Mckinley is an urban fantasy about a human raising an orphaned dragon and reintroducing her to dragons - it has a very obvious narrator, which may annoy some.

Elvenbane by Lackey/Norton has an intelligent dragon society - a girl gets raised by dragons.

The Throne of Jade particularly focuses on dragon protagonists. But really all the Temeraire books feature some of it. The first one not so much but all the rest do.

Mercedes Lackey has a dragon series too - alta, joust, Sanctuary, Aerie. involves dragons and their riders.

anne mccaffery's pern books have a lot of stories about dragons and their riders. this is either fantasy or science fiction, take your pick.

Robert Asprin has two dragon books: Dragons Luck and Dragons Wild. This is urban fantasy, with a college grad and his sister who don't know they are dragons and just coming into their dragoness.

Dragon's Ring by Dave Freer. a different world where dragons rule and humans are prey.

Destiny Kills by Keri Arthur is urban fantasy about dragons, some of them captured and experimented on by human scientists.

Oh, Christopher Paolini also a dragon trilogy. forgot their names, but it was made into a movie.

Irene Radford wrote all the Dragon Nimbus books. There are a fair few people in them though so not exactly what you're looking for.

E E Knight wrote 4 books now that are more what you want as it is heavily on the dragon interactions. Dragon Champion is the first of them.

I agree with other posters on the Naomi Novik recommendation.

Cheers

Have you read the Bazil Broketail series? There are humans in it but Dragons feature prominently in them, they arent the winged firebreathing type though.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but The Last Dragonlord and Dragon and Phoenix are a YA/Romance series of books regarding dragons that can shapechange into humans.

Tea with the Black Dragon by R. A. MacAvoy

This is definitely humans related to a dragon, but the presentation of the dragon is extremely original - possibly not exactly the type of book you are looking for, but it's a gem of a story nonetheless.

I was going to suggest The Dragon Knight by Gordon R. Dickson, The Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C. Wrede or Blue Moon Rising by Simon R. Green, if that helps.

A Book Dragon by Donn Kushner is a lovely little dragon story if you can find it.

Nothing But Blue Skies by Tom Holt. Chinese dragons and weather forcasters...

I would definitely echo E.E. Knight's Age of Fire books. And, Novik's Temeraire series.

If you don't mind science fiction elements, I released a book recently, Draconia: Forging Trust, about a world inhabited by dragons. One of the main characters is a young dragon.

Kim Harrison writing as Dawn Cook - First Truth, Hidden Truth,Forgotten Truth & Lost Truth have an element of dragon.

I cringe suggesting this as it may or may not be to your taste, it wasn't to mine. Katie MacAlister's Aisling Gray Guardian Series You Slay Me, Fire Me Up, Light My Fire 7 Holy Smokes. More paranormal romance.

They Gray Guardian books are paranormal romance - I like them well enough.

Well, it's a bit of a stretch, but I'll mention Alan Dean Foster's Flinx books featuring his Alaspin mini-drag, Pip.

Also, if memory serves, Daniel Hood has a trilogy of books featuring a dragon familiar; the first book is Fanuilh.

One that may be more on point, though I've yet to read the books, is relatively new UK author Stephen Deas' series starting with The Adamantine Palace. The cover blurb from Brent Weeks says the dragons are "inscrutable, beautiful, magical, unstoppable."

There is the Dragon Keeper series written by Carole Wilkinson featuring Dragon's Dawn, Dragon Keeper, Garden of the purple dragon, and Dragon moon. It has human characters in it a lot. They are chinese dragons and some people might consider that bad, but it is a quick series to read. But it's different than most dragon books, very different.

>32 humouress: A nonprofit fundraising drive I'm part of has a copywriter who came up 3 or 4 years ago with a whole brochure based on the phrase "Winter is coming". We all assumed she was building on the popularity of GOT. It turned out she'd never read or watched it, and had no idea what we were talking about....
