About the Author

Peter Robinson was born in Castleford, Yorkshire, in 1950. He received a B.A. Honours Degree in English literature from the University of Leeds, moved to Canada, and went on to earn a M.A. in English and creative writing from the University of Windsor and a Ph.D. in English from York University. show more His first novel, Gallows View, was published in 1987 and became the first book in the Inspector Banks Mystery series. His other works include Caedmon's Song, No Cure for Love, Not Safe after Dark and Other Stories, Before the Poison, and When the Music's Over. He has received several awards including the Crime Writers of Canada's Arthur Ellis Award for Best Novel in 1992 for Past Reason Hated and the Author's Award from the Foundation for the Advancement of Canadian Letters in 1994 for Final Account. He has also published many short stories in anthologies and in Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine, including Innocence, which won the CWC Best Short Story Award, and The Two Ladies of Rose Cottage, which won a Macavity Award. DCI Banks gets an unexpected call from his brother, which worries him enough that he decides to head down to London next morning. At the same time, his team in Eastvale is investigating the murder of a young woman driving north with Banks's old address in her pocket. Soon enough, the two incidents start to seem interlinked.

DCi Banks and the team investigate a case of arson, which is followed by another arson incident, but there doesn't seem to be any obvious connection between the cases or good evidence to point towards a perpetrator.

The first half of this two-novel edition, Wednesday's Child, starts with a disappearance of a young girl, picked up from her home by a pair pretending to be social workers. Little by little, the case becomes entangled with a killing of a local petty criminal, until DCI Banks and the team can figure out what's actually happening.

The second half of this two-novel edition starts with the discovery of a man killed in an alley on a Saturday night. It looks like it might just be a night out turned into a fight gone wrong, but as DCI Banks and team slowly discover, they have nagging doubts even when things are starting to look resolved.… (more)

DCI Banks's holiday in Greece is interrupted by the discovery of the remains of his old school friend, Graham, which reopens the decades-old investigation into his disppearance. Banks wants to help, and alongside the team at Eastvale are looking into the disappearance of a local teenager.
