This is the story of Robert Emmett, the Irish revolutionary. It is historical fiction based on real people who lived in the late 1700s to early 1800s. I learned a lot about this period in Irish history from this well-researched book. Unfortunately, the Kindle version could have used additional proofreading. It contains instances of incorrect word usage, odd spaces within a word, and various sentence fragments, which I found distracting. I thought the book could have been shortened without losing the power of the story. I was glad the author included an epilogue to convey what happened to the many secondary characters. Overall it was a moving story marred by preventable issues. ( )

This first book in a trilogy based on real people and events about Ireland’s long-sought independence is full of heart and soul. It appears that the author is a descendant of some of the people in the book. This is a reluctant 5-star book, which I ordinarily save for new favorites. This one is so heartbreaking it can’t be a fave. It deserves them anyway as an excellent novel. ( )

A wonderful book concerning the 1802-1803 United uprising in Ireland. Well written and well researched. This is book one in a trilogy and I will be reading the others. ( )
