Omfg way too much language shit: it literally has English, Spanish, French, Sci-fi jargon, and 80s lingo wrapped in nonsense. I read 40 pages of the first issue and I barely knew what was going on. From what I could gather, it's an artsy compilation is mix-matched stories that are bounded together by a female lead protagonist and may/may not be in the same universe.

It melted my brain, I need something easier to read than this. ( )

Sitting on the ledge, at lunch, in high school, a classmate suggested I read "Love and Rockets" since it was a comic book and not just a rock band.

I went to the local comic shop at the time, picked this up and read it. Cover to cover. Then I read it again. And again. And the next day.

It is difficult for me to determine what is better, the artwork or the storytelling. The two author brothers, Hernandez, have very unique, strong artistic styles. Jaimie with thick, smooth line and a joyful feel. Gilberto with raw, jagged and sometimes imperfect lines, tremendous detail and breathtaking scope. Both have enormous depth, both to the fantastical and every day realism.

I found Hernendez Bros. work to be challenging to read, despite being at the right reading level.
It was easier to read while listening to music, I found and it was this way I became an avid reader and collector of these gentlemen.

This first issue is a classic. It explores all manner of human life including those lifestyles out there that may be strange to some. It also embodies true fantasy, pushing the boundaries of gender roles and possibilities of progress. It is surprising and different, even today when different is more accepted. There is also mature content.

Once you begin this first issue, there is so much more to read, the Hernandez universe is vast and full. ( )

This collection was more than a little hit-or-miss for me, but since a lot of people have recommended Love & Rockets to me, I'm going to give the next few volumes a try. I did really love the artwork, but the lack of any real overarching plotline left me a little befuddled. ( )
