Even though he's different, all of Balto's friends recognize what he still can't see himself; his noble spirit. One day, a serious diphtheria epidemic spreads among the children of Nome. When a blizzard closes off all routes of transport, there's no way to obtain life-saving medicine ... unless a team of sled dogs can race through the blinding Arctic storm and bring back antitoxin. But the dogs are lost in the frozen wilderness. Now, only Balto can rescue the team and save the children.… (more)

A dramatized version of the true story of the heroic dog team that got desperately needed medicine from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska, during a 1925 diphtheria epidemic. The dire conditions are simplified for younger viewers, but the film still engages adults with the gripping tale of a relay of dog sleds, nearly disastrous mishaps, a blizzard, and the final 53-mile run that Gunnar and his lead dog Balto accomplish.
