This book has all the artistic and stylized features of poetry that are in his other book "ZOO'S WHO". It would be an excellent teaching tool to teach how to form written verse that rhymes, and make use of poetic tools such as assonance, common meter, and consonance. It would be a good book to use as a partner with his book "ZOO'S WHO's" within poetry lessons. ( ) "in the swim" by Douglas Florian is a humorous poem book about the different animals in the ocean. From Piranhas to Manatees and everything in between, the reader learns that no two creatures are the same, and each has its place in the underwater world. It is a great book for teaching students about different kinds of poetry. Not only are there rhyming words and fun facts, but the author arranges the words on the page in a way that mimics the movements of each sea animal. It is a collection of poems about different creatures that live in the ocean. The way the author makes these poems so interesting is by making the words in the poem expressive, by changing the font or the size of some of the words. It is also interesting because the title is what the poem is describing. Sometimes the poet formats the poems into short riddles where someone would have to guess the creature if they did not see the title or picture. no reviews | add a review
