This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. Enjoyed the writing of Frank Scozzari. His description of places, people, and feelings was so well written. Page 21 has a wonderful statement for the title of this novel and the story itself. "Hopefuls who fell victim to lure the light". This is a story of those who did and ended it, and those left behind to still seek revenge. However, you cannot kill Hollywood and its glamor. Thank you LibraryThing for the opportunity to review An Orphan of the Light by Frank Scozzari. This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. A sad book about Hollywood and false hopes. A detective notices a beautiful waitress, and finds a cold case. The dark side of Hollywood is revealed, but the ending was vague. This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. An Orphan of the Light by Frank Scozzari"A young woman haunted by a riddle from her past befriends an L.A.P.D. Detective who is obsessed with an old case involving a woman who committed suicide off the Hollywood Sign. Together they unravel the past, which sets the young woman on an ill-fated plan of revenge." The story moves at a fast pace, with engaging dialog, attention to detail and intriguing characters. With references to the real life tragedy of Peg Entwistle, a young actress who plummeted to her death by jumping of the Hollywood sign in 1932. Detective Garrett Connelly becomes intrigued by a case in 1979, where a young Actress (Nora Sims) fell to her death off the Hollywood sign. He starts investigating, was this a murder or suicide? When he sees a striking young woman (Moira) who resembles Nora, He is determined to get answers. Moira is mysterious, secretive, intriguing. They form a friendship. Slowly secrets begin to surface, as Garrett races against time to (try) to stop a disaster from happening. A fascinating, hauntingly tragic story that had me engrossed from the first page until the end. Overall I found this to be a very enjoyable read and highly recommend. *Trigger warnings as the subject of suicide is mentioned. no reviews | add a review

I can't say this was a favorite, and that's ok, not every book is one for you. The idea of the story was good. A cop, while investigating a crime hears about a similar old case, that was closed, but really wasn't looked into. This of course piques his interest. As he looks through the file he sees all sorts of gaps and wonders why. Somewhat obsessively he begins to look into it. He meets Moira and is immediately struck by her looks, and how similar they are to the woman in the cold case. The two have their own agenda and both seem obsessive.
It was an interesting read, and moved well, just not my thing. ( )
