The Call of the Wild is a heart-rending story about a large, strong dog snatched away from his comfortable home and taken to serve as sled dog in the gold rush, and his struggle for survival. It is followed in this volume by several short stories relating life in the Klondike, each one terrible and sensitive, all gripping, exploring men's (and a woman's) strength and weaknesses. They are illustrated by archive photos, very well selected. A beautiful and well-produced book. ( )
