This book was full of stories I'd never heard of before, and I really liked that. Some of them felt pretty creepy, some felt fantastical (not in an off-putting way), others left me thinking (those were my favorite), some felt more engrossing than others, but I found them all to be very interesting in their own ways, and I thoroughly enjoyed how the book came across in that aspect.
On the other hand, there were a couple of things that also came across as distracting for me in the reading. First, I noticed there were some places that could still use some editing. In seeing these occurrences, I did start finding myself looking for more instead of focusing on the stories themselves.
Second, I did feel there were occasions when the end seemed to be at the beginning, or the ending felt abrupt, and there were times when it felt like, for me, that there were some redundancies in things that had already been stated.
As a result, I felt like I was re-reading parts of this book more often than is usual for me. While I loved the stories themselves and appreciated how Young was able to still present them all in a way that had me empathetic for many involved, I ultimately felt a little more time would have polished out the things that ended up being distracting for me.
