In the newest novel from internationally-bestselling author Ronald. H. Balson, Liam and Catherine come to the aid of an old friend and are drawn into a property dispute in Tuscany that unearths long-buried secrets
An old friend calls Catherine Lockhart and Liam Taggart to his famous Italian restaurant to enlist their help. His aunt is being evicted from her home in the Tuscan hills by a powerful corporation claiming they own the deeds, even though she can produce her own set of deeds to her land. Catherine and Liam's only clue is a bound handwritten manuscript, entirely in German, and hidden in its pages is a story long-forgotten...
Ada Baumgarten was born in Berlin in 1918, at the end of the war. The daughter of an accomplished first-chair violinist in the prestigious Berlin Philharmonic, and herself a violin prodigy, Ada's life was full of the rich culture of Berlin's interwar society. She formed a deep attachment to her childhood friend Kurt, but they were torn apart by the growing unrest as her Jewish family came under suspicion. As the tides of history turned, it was her extraordinary talent that would carry her through an unraveling society turned to war, and make her a target even as it saved her, allowing her to move to Bolognaâ??though Italy was not the haven her family had hoped, and further heartache awaited.
What became of Ada? How is she connected to the conflicting land deeds of a small Italian villa? As they dig through the layers of lies, corruption, and human evil, Catherine and Liam uncover an unfinished story of heart, redemption, and hopeâ??the ending of which is yet to be written.

Got this as a giveaway book from Goodreads. Read 20 pages of it and I couldn’t finish it. The book didn’t grab my attention and I had a hard time being engaged with the plot. ( )

Gabi Vincenzo has lived on her family’s vineyard in Tuscany for 70 years when a sleazy lawyer, representing the corporation which owns the surrounding land, serves an eviction notice. Her nephew, Tony, asks his good friends Liam Taggert and Catherine Lockhart for help, promising them a free trip and lodging. Gabi provides a translated manuscript to read, without explanation. It is the memoir of Ada Baumgarten, a virtuoso Jewish violinist who lived in Berlin while the Nazis rose to power. Most of the novel is Ada's story, her friendship with fellow violinist Kurt Koenig, whose father forces him to join Hitler Youth, and her narrow escape to Bologna. Sadly, Liam and Catherine are mostly absent in this fifth novel in the series. ( )

Wow, I really liked this book. Keep me turning page after page wanting to solve the mystery. I will say the parts of the book set during pre-war in Germany and Italy were my favorite over the current time line.
I will look forward to more books from this author. I give this book a very strong 4 stars, really 4. 5 stars. ( )

The information provided in this book was illuminating. However, the writing and dialogue left much to be desired. I appreciated learning about undergound activity during World War II. ( )

This book is so amazing! I loved it. The story is great but it was a very interactive book for me. Whenever Ada mentioned a musical piece that she was learning I got on Youtube and listened to the music! In the beginning I was stopping to listen to music often but it really made the book come alive for me! I took music lessons as a child and had a lot of exposure to classical music in my childhood. This book really helped me rediscover my love for classical music! I was also impressed with the amount of research that must have went into the writing of this story. Life in prewar Germany was vividly described. Parents wrestling with decisions like " Do I take my family and leave the only country they have ever known or do I risk staying?" I can imagine the weight of those decisions. The wrong choice could cost everything. I highly recommend this book it is a really great read! ( )
