As with any anthology, Fantastic Companions contains both 'fantastic' stories and 'not so fantastic' stories. I'm not going to review each story individually--I already did that for Tangent Online--but suffice it to say that there are enough heartwarming, thought-provoking stories of humans and the animals who keep them going in here to make it well worth buying and reading. Three stars overall. ( )

Yes, I'm very biased. But I love this book because it's the first time Variel Shenareth is in print.
