"Real stories and real feedback on what should be said, what should be kept to yourself, and what can be done when trying to support someone you care about as they navigate loss. Breaking Sad helps us start conversations through its pages of personal stories and suggestions from everyday survivors--bringing us all to a place where we can more comfortably offer support and caring to people when they need it most. 3.75 Stars. I don't feel reading this book gave me a better sense of what to say or do for grieving loved ones, but I do feel like it gave me a more solid understanding of how varied people's experiences of grief can be. Although marketed for people supporting others through grief, this book may be just as if not more useful for grieving people as the variety of experiences presented may help assure them that there is no one right way to grieve.

This book is notably flawed (the other kinds of loss section was especially weak compared to other sections) and could be made more useful for people with some minor tweaks (like adding content indexing or content warnings), but the vulnerability of the writers and the breadth of experiences discussed make this a worthwhile read all the same.
