Allow a day for this fast-paced PG apocalyptic science-fiction zombie survival quest that starts as Hill City, Texas goes dark ( ) OUTBREAK by Joshua Chadd kept me engaged until the end. In this story, 2 brothers come to learn of the zombie apocalypse after spending a few days hunting at their secluded ranch. Now they were on a quest to travel from Texas to Nebraska to rescue their parents. In another storyline, Emmit and his daughter rescue another female and head north where they feel it might be safer. Eventually, the two come together and lead readers into book #2 in the series. The story is split between the main characters battling zombies and wicked groups of living beings who want to rob and kill them. As a writer myself, I know how difficult it is to write and publish stories, so kudos to Joshua. My criticism of this book is that I found that technical information about guns, ammo, and binoculars was excessive as was religious discussions. Both seemed to bog down and interrupt the flow of the story. The story could have been better edited to tighten it up and remove the many passive voices throughout. All in all, I found the book to be worthwhile and did purchase the next book in the series to see what happens next to the main characters. Hopefully, it is better written than this first installment. Still, worth a read if you are a fan of The Walking Dead. Just finished prequil Tanked by Joshua C. Chadd, the first few pages in to this book and know I'll like it already-direct quote: "The article was by CNN and they never tell the truth." Great that someone points out the obvious. I have the eBook version. Pretty good post apocolyptic zombie fiction. The series has a strong Christian theme. Works well. From a storyline standpoint, this is one of the best end-of-the-world books I have read. The author is able to switch between the point of view of two families struggling for survival, intertwining them at just the right moment. The result is the creation of a seemingly plausible alternate reality - not an easy task when Zombies are involved. Warnings: Some religious content and a lot of details on guns. A good story about the the opening of a zombie apocalypse that follows members of two families, both of which have military training and are prepped for such a situation. I don't usually like shorter books that follow multiple stories, but this book flowed between them well. Good action and good pacing, other than a few spots where there were laundry lists of guns and weapons being packed or prepped. I was torn between a 4 or a 5 rating, but went up to a 5. That rating may change if the second book disappoints. no reviews | add a review
