I read a load of Allingham mysteries a long time ago and I don't remember them well anymore. I just read three of her earliest (which I don't remember at all so maybe I didn't read these) and they are still good mysteries, still suspenseful and still have delightful characters. They are a little dated so some of the references I didn't get. And also there are some racist attitudes in one of the books and maybe some ant-semitic comments in another. It's unclear whether these were attitudes of the characters or the author but I suspect both. I don't remember anything like this in the later books. Nevertheless I do want to read some more of Allingham's books. ( )
