"Zoey is not the woman she once was. She's watched her friends die at the hands of their captors, been hunted, and returned from the brink of death. Now she must find the truth about who she is. In search of the family she never knew, Zoey learns of personal records stored in an Idaho missile silo that may contain the information she and the other women seek. With the help of her group of newfound friends, Zoey travels to the missile facility, but among the records, they uncover information that leads to an insidious and horrific new foe: the Fae Trade, a macabre carnival of slavery and pain."--Cover.… (more)

I enjoyed myself, but still. Sometimes the drama is off. I'm not sure if it's too much or too little or what. It's just off. I listened to the audiobook while I was on sortof bedrest and so I'm suspicious that I may have fallen asleep and skipped some plot or something. ( )

I was given this book by NetGalley in exchange for a review. Wow! I was so excited to see that this was already available to review as I loved the first book in the series! I devoured this in two days. The story picks up several months later and Zoey has recovered from her back injury but she is still haunted by the ghosts of her past. She catches someone spying on them and shoots him. Before letting him die she finds out that there is a small military base nearby and that there is a female locked up inside. She decides with the help of her friends to get in and rescue her. They take over the small group of men holding her captive and find out that she is one of the girls from ARC and even more horrifying they find that ARC gave her to the Fae Trade to sell.
Zoey then decides that this has to stop once and for all and decides to take on the maniacal couple that runs the Trade and end the atrocities occurring there.
This story was completely engrossing, the characters are being developed wonderfully in there imperfect flawed ways and it ends with a HUGE cliffhanger. I cannot wait for the next book!!!! ( )

(6/10) Not a bad follow up to The Last Girl, I enjoyed this more and definitely found it an easier read. The action sequences were the best, particularly at the end, that was a very well written chapter and for me the stand out of the series so far.

I really wanted to give this 4 stars and for a while I was convinced I would but it suffers from the same style problems as the first book. Although I noticed it less this time the writing in the present tense just doesn't feel right, if the book was all action it would be perfect but in the slower scenes it just feels awkward. There are also the same laboured descriptions that just lost me.

What I did enjoy were the chapters from different points of view, particularly Wen (a great addition to the series and the best written character so far). I was struggling with Zoey throughout this so it was refreshing to get into the other characters heads.

I will read the final book to round it off as I'm not sure how it's going to end at the moment. It's not a bad series and the story is great with some chapters excellently written, it's just not very consistently good. ( )
