This is kind of a love story mixed in with her parents and grandmother passing away within six months of each other. Kay Baker is a wonderful protagonist. She lived in Harlem and the night of her showing, her parents die. She has to decide to go back to Harlem or stay home. She finds out she is a very powerful medicine woman with three main traits: healing, foreseeing the future, and finding her soul mate.

That soul mate, and I love him, is Sam. He was the "Motorcycle Guy" she did a series of paintings on.. They met at the Astoria hospital the night her parents died. He was caring for her grandmother, who had bouts of Alzheimer's disease, but can be lucid at times. The grandmother was the one who pointed her to the tribal council to find out just what powers she had. That is also a brilliant storyline in the book. I would love to read much more by Julie Manthey!

Thank you to Julie Manthey, The Independent Book Publishers Association, and NetGalley for giving me a free e-ARC of this book to read and give my honest review. ( )
