This is the story of a black woman coming of age in the 50's, I found it interesting my only problem was she just kept on having child after child, because she felt that 'there was nothing wrong with it", she had six kids with four different men,and another six with her last partner, it made me want to grab her and say, come on , use some kind of contraception dammit, her pattern seemed to be meet a man get pregnant, get abandoned, go out and labor some more at a menial job, meet another man get pregnant, ad nauseam.
