Regina Nash is faced with a choice. She either marries one of the three men her grandfather sent as suitors or she loses her nephew. Her grandfather thinks she needs to have a husband in order to raise a child as well as to look after her. She is living in the small town of Turnabout, Texas while her grandfather resides in Philadelphia. She wants nothing to do with marriage and likes her independent life just the way it is. However, she will do whatever it takes to keep her nephew so she reluctantly signs the contract brought by her father’s man, Adam Barr. Too bad Adam isn’t putting himself forward as a potential suitor as she thinks he would make a good father. She has known Adam for about seven years and had a crush on him when she was a teenager. Now, she has a strategy mapped out that will hopefully discourage the suitors to return to the East Coast and leave her in peace.
Adam Barr wants nothing more than for this three-week trial to be over. He is anxious to get back to Philadelphia to clear his name. He was wrongly convicted of embezzlement and spent six years in jail. He knows who the guilty party is, but he must find proof before making any accusations. He lost everything as a result of his imprisonment…his law practice, his home, his fiancée. He wants nothing to do with Regina Nash and her husband quandary, but he owes Judge Madison, Regina’s grandfather, as he is the only man in Philadelphia to stand by him throughout his legal troubles, still believing him innocent of the charges. Adam admires Regina’s spirit and dedication to her nephew, but he will uphold the contract no matter what as he gave the Judge his word. However, Regina’s decision must be made in two weeks and what she decides throws everyone for a curve.
Reading this book was a great way to spend my Saturday afternoon. The plot was not complicated, the characters were likeable and the outcome a forgone conclusion, but I sure enjoyed the journey getting to the end. This is a light historical romance with a Christian theme, which I endorse wholeheartedly. The next book in the series is titled, The Bride Next Door, and I will be reading and reviewing that book soon on this blog. This is a feel-good romance that will leave readers smiling at the end.
My rating is 4 stars.
