A Reminder Regarding ER Policy Around Download Links

Hi All. I wanted to post this reminder regarding our policy when it comes to the download links you receive through the Early Reviewers program.

It has recently come to our attention that at least one of our members may have shared a download link they received, or set up a bot to download copies, leading to many more downloads than winners, on the site in question.

Please be aware that the links you receive are for your use only, and that in addition to being a violation of our policy, and cause for immediate ejection from the ER program, sharing links in this way is against the law.

We try to encourage authors and publishers to use the simplest download options available (more news on this later today), as we know our members don't always like to join other sites, or give their email addresses. That said, these simpler options may not be possible, if this situation were to become a common one. I hope that it does not.

Please do let me know if you have any questions on this, or any other Early Reviewer matter. You can reach out to me here on the site, or via email, at: abigailadams@librarything.com.

I wound up downloading one of my latest wins several times because I couldn't get it to open in a couple of different reading apps and thought there might have been a download error. I eventually found an app that opened it, but all those downloads probably looked nefarious!

>2 amanda4242: I think what you describe is not that unusual. It has certainly never set off any alarm bells previously, and no author or publisher has reached out to me about this before. There were other factors in this recent case, that point to a bot being used.
