Is there a standard for this?
For example I made an author division to separate Marilyn Manson the person from Marilyn Manson the band. The benefits here are that works he did alone such as authoring books and appearing in films appear under the person, and albums appear under the band. Is this desirable?
For sure it gets a bit confusing when they "go solo" using the same name. However, I still think the division is of benefit.
I thought I had put disambiguation notes where I could but someone came along and undid all that work a few weeks later, either not understanding or not caring. Maybe I did the wrong thing.
Advice please.

I think author division sounds like the best approach for this, with appropriate descriptions/disambiguation notes on the split. It seems a good distinction to be made between works from just the single person vs the group.

Thanks for the feedback.
I am sure I added necessary disambiguation notes, can they be easily ignored?
Can it be checked if they were deleted before undoing the work I did on this artist?

The helper page indicates there is stranded Common Knowledge, but I don’t see it. Perhaps someone is fixing it now.
Yes, one member wholesale undid your work. That’s a shame. You might reach out and attempt a conversation with Ghost_Boy
Or not, depending on your comfort level.
BTW, your reasoning is correct in splitting the authors, in my opinion.

Very happy to see information about Marilyn Manson on here. 😁

Huh. I would certainly separate Bruce Hornsby from Bruce Hornsby and the Range, but I wouldn't have considered dividing the Bruce Hornsby page into works performed solo from works performed with or as part of a group. I figure if someone lists a work under the artist alone, they are attributing it to that individual.

>6 r.orrison: The issue here I think is that the name of the band that Marilyn Manson is in is also called Marilyn Manson. Bruce Hornsby is not also in a band called Bruce Hornsby.
The proposal here is the same way that wikipedia deals with it:

>7 norabelle414: Fair enough. I'm clearly not familiar with Marilyn Manson, and was just trying to understand the issue in terms I am familiar with.

Since the person is part of the band, Is it possible to use other authors to get the person also on the group works, and thus the group works also on the person's page? I suspect only with work arounds, but it would be worth trying.

>9 MarthaJeanne: We can't assign two different author splits to the same work. I think in order to make that work we would have to create a new author e.g. "Marilyn Manson (band)" and force all of the works onto that author page and I think that would just lead to more confusion

>10 norabelle414: That sounds like a bug. It should be possible for two authors who just happen to have the same name to both contribute to the same work

I have a book in my library that was written and illustrated by two cousins with the same name.

Since the illustrator was already in LT, I have assigned the work to the author as Hermann Härtel (2). This doesn't come up often, but it can.

>4 2wonderY: Just seeing this now. I accidently did this not knowing Marilyn Manson was both a person and a band. It's a little confusing.
