Book not registering series

Total noob question

I've imported a number of books and some arrived without ISBNs. I have entered those and added publisher/author, but the series does auto-populate. I know how I can add a new series and add new entries to an existing series, but how do I get the series to recognize a book I've added to my library as a part of an existing series? Should I delete the import and manually add so that it maps from the beginning?

If the title is already in the series, you need to combine your entry with that work. Otherwise, you can add the series from the main work page, or from the series page.

It would be easier to advise you if you gave a few examples.

Deleting and re-entering usually makes matters worse.

I had a quick look at your catalogue and I don't know if you have seen but you have quite a bit of ratty data. Books with no authors, where there clearly should be an author (I recognise some of the titles). By adding the author and combining you well find that the system does a lot more for you.

That's what prompted my question. I am working my way through the imported titles and trying get get things in order!
