On trying to (mistakengly) make your cats comfortable.

Hi group, just another observation (and everyone in this group 'loves' CAT observations)

Well...

I noticed 'Lizzy' trying to get under a doona. To bury her head and sleep for many... hours.
This time she seemed to have had some diffucility (and I had seen her do this many times before)

So.

I just.

Put/placed her, under the dooona.

3 seconds later she was out. Quite annoyed.

She is once again 'sitting' on my knee.

She was probably hunting something and you spoiled it :)

#2, The old girl is 18 yo. or so.
The last time I saw her 'hunting' anything, was a 'blue bottle' fly (and she missed...)

ETA. She is good with 'shoe laces' :-)

That's cute. I had to Google "doona" (love learning words in non-American English).

My cat does that too! He worms his way under the covers but if you put the covers over him, he leaves. Strange little fuzzer!

Victoria usually wants to be under the covers with me. But she gets very confused when I'm on top of the covers :) She doesn't understand, and she walks around me and pokes at my t-shirt and tries to crawl into my sleeve.

I have an older cat that seems to like it when I wrap my robe or blanket I'm using around her when she sits in my lap but will not crawl under blankets herself. Go figure.

I believe the whole point here is that it was no longer HER idea. If you wanted it, it was YOUR idea. It has to be hers.

I suspect you are exactly right staffordcastle! I noticed my cat would burrow into my down blanket every time I removed it from the bed and piled it on the floor with the other linen to be washed, so I bought her her very own feather pillow and placed in one of her favorite places to sit. She hasn't touched it in, lo, these last three years! I finally put it in the upstairs closet. No one in the family likes feather pillows!

In my house we learned that the only way to make the cats use something is to make them think it is ours. The pillow we bought for the cat was on the sofa for two weeks till we threw it on the floor by the fireplace for the cats. After that the cats used it for years no matter where it was moved.

I've given up trying to guess what makes DeeDee comfortable, never mind "why". I just let her sort it out for herself and then go along with it.

The bicolor in the tree reminds me of my Lucky... except when she woke up, she forgot how she got to the branch and started to cry that she was stuck...

Amazing what a can of tuna does to motivate a cat to figure things out... :)
