I just started this book yesterday: read the acknowledgements and am on the foreword. Has anyone else read it? The author clearly likes Westerns (in film and in print) so I'm eager to learn about her historical analysis, and whether I agree. I may have to read it in chunks because I don't want to read chapters for Westerns I haven't read. I'll have to stop to read the Western, then go on to read her chapter. Schizo I know, but what's a cowgirl to do?

I found it to be an excellent book. Tompkins took the genre seriously and it shows. Some of the chapters I found more convincing than others, but it is an interesting and thought provoking book and well worth your time.
