Klaas Verplancke

I came across this book because I have an interest in picture books that depict families with only dads where that's not the issue at hand, but just a fact of life. When I looked at this at first, I didn't like it at all, but it has grown on me. The illustrations in this book are not to my taste, but they are well done and I can see how they would appeal to some. While this isn't my kind of book, I do think it expresses an emotional truth for children. When your parents are mad at you it makes you angry and scared and sad, but it doesn't last forever and it doesn't mean they don't love you.… (more)
