Haila Troy is taking Spanish lessons at the Randall School of Languages. They were a gift from her husband, Jeff, who won them in a raffle. It wasn’t a bad thing as she’d met and made friends with some of the people there.

Haila received a call from a Mary Connors asking to switch lesson times. Mary wanted to trade her Tuesday slot for Haida’s Monday slot. Mary had a date Monday evening and wanted to impress her date with her Spanish. She thought a refresher with her teach would do the trick. The excuse sounded good and Haila agreed.

Tuesday Haila found out there was no Mary Connors and the call was a ruse. She also found her teacher had been murdered in his classroom. Hailda also learns that the backgrounds of the teachers aren’t necessarily what is expected — many have some unusual histories. Mr. Randall, the school’s owner, hasn’t put all his cards on the table in regards to the school, either.

The clues are numerous and varied and the running them down isn’t easy for Haila and her husband, Jeff. Written in 1948, the location is New York City, the action steady and the dialogue between the Troys humorous and entertaining. Along the lines of the Mr. and Mrs. North series or the Thin Man series. It was a fun read in one sitting.

Murder on Martha's Vineyard by Kelley Roos
Enjoyed this book because of the locations that I am familiar with.
Lot of characters but they fall into place. Good story of a community that helps one another and pays attention to habits of their friends.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

This was an enjoyable, quick read. My first experience with this author (actually written by a husband & wife team), apparently I started in the middle of a series so maybe it would rate higher if read in sequence.

I always enjoy these mysteries with a 'cast' of suspects. In this case . I didn't believe the evidence before my eyes so I was bamboozled.
