On the eve of his impending election as state judge, H. Mouse sits on his porch sits on his porch next to the ballot box, waiting for his neighbors to cast their votes. Meanwhile, his beloved daughters are being kidnapped by a cult of religious fanatics led by the Sunshine Family. If you've never heard of the Sunshine Family, it's a crappy plastic doll/Mattell knock off. Anyway, after the abduction, things start getting weird. Funny, weird and poignant, "Elect H. Mouse State Judge" offers a fully realized world of absurdity.… (more)

Reifler is exactly the person you want sitting next to you at a long dinner: her prose is shapely, keen, wry, charming, musical and insightful. The stories deliver with mirth and cool candor. And more than one of them: perfect.
