Scottish Historical Romance in Name that Book (November 2016)

Reviews

Didn't read it, The previous 2 books of the author that I read follow the same basic lot, so I'm not bothering to read this.

The book is okay. After reading another book by this author set in the highlands, this follows a similar plot. Enemies to lovers, the heroine discovers the highland "barbarian" isn't as horrible as she first believed. There's some history in it but it's really a bit of fluff for anyone who wants t read about big strong men in kilts and feisty heroine.

I won't be reading any more of McCarthy's books since they all follow the same basic plot. And there are many things that pull me out of the story, like characters saying "God" and other phrases that are modern.… (more)

A fun quick read.

The background is based in fact but the characters are fiction. I found some of the dialog pulled me out of the story. I highly doubt that people in the 1600s were saying "Oh God." There was a lot of history in this, so don't read it to learn much about what was going on in Scotland at the time. This is a romance. Enemies to lovers. If you want some historical romance fluff, then you'll enjoy this one. The few sex scenes are pretty tame.

Quickie Review-(May contain spoilers)

So I wanted to really enjoy this one, as I had loved the first book. I should have been aware of who the heroine is though. So my issue with this book is the heroine. I gave it till about 50% and I just had to set it aside. The heroine was very toxic and honestly TSTL. Normally I am not super picky about that but why can't author's write journalistic heroines better? My issue with the heroine was she was willing to do anything for a story including risk the hero's life. She literally tells the hero he is fine and he can handle himself. Basically shrugging it off like its no big deal that she is willing to put his life at risk so she can get her story. And it just got worse as the story moved forward and not seeing how this author can redeem this heroine, so will be setting it aside.… (more)
