I picked this one up right after finishing 'The Violet Fox' since I'd bought all three of the books right from the get go. Some of the pacing in book 2 felt a little odd, particularly at the start, but it smoothed out towards the end. The love triangle the author had going is fairly typical of the genre but not as annoying as they usually are.

All in all, an enjoyable book and I'll be moving on to book 3 shortly.

I'm a little embarrassed by how long it took me to read this installment as compared to its predecessors, but things got a little crazy leaving me with little recreational reading time.

The initial pacing of this one was slow and forcing my brain through 1st person perspective didn't help. About half way through it picked up a little. Linnea's disappearance from the story was a little too convenient for my taste but I'm sure other readers will disagree on that.

I quite enjoyed the last few chapters and oddly even the amnesia plot line. I'm curious to see where the fourth book takes us.… (more)

There were parts of this book where I wanted to slap the MC for being incredibly stupid. Things turned out alright in the end, but holy crap was her behaviour bad for a lot of it. Based on the last three books, I get it and I get where she's coming from. I was glad to see that she showed a lot of growth as a person towards the end of the book. I hope there are more books in this series.

So, I was at SaskExpo this last weekend and I stumbled on the author's table more or less by accident. As a writer myself I'm always drawn to tables full of books. I had a pleasant chat with Ms. Marshall and wound up picking up the three books in the series that she had for sale as it was a good deal.

What I didn't realize until I cracked the first one open a few days after I got home was that the series is written in first person. Usually this is an automatic nope for me. I abhor first person perspective books. I've only ever read one that was any good. But, I bought them, I liked the author from the brief chat we had, so I decided to just try.

I was relieved to learn that the first book is quite good. It took me about a day to plow through it as it's an easy read. Given that it's YA, the resolution to the plot was relatively easy to see coming, but that's ok. You expect that sort of thing in certain genres. There was one twist I did't see coming and that was nice. I like surprises.

I started on book 2 last night and I hope it's as enjoyable as the first.
