Pecorino's First Concert by Alan Madison
I was impressed by the use of the word "Brobdingnagian," but this is really just a story about a boy who gets stuck in a tuba.
Young Pecorino Sasquatch attends a concert with his mother. While exploring the instruments he puts himself into a difficult position. A wonderful introduction for students to the orchestra.
Pretty fun story about a kid who is trying to live up to her big sisters' reputations, gets into trouble, and then finds her own bliss in a butterfly. Sibling relationships, butterfly knowledge, going to school, finding a passion of your own -- a lot going on in a good picture book.

Appropriate for ages: 4-8 years
The illustrations were cute and the inclusion of sibling rivalry in the story was something many children could probably relate to. Thankfully this was presented in a positive light, as a child trying to find their own identity and sense of achievement. The other theme in the book attempted to explain the metamorphosis and migration of butterflies. At one point the story took a weird turn and had a butterfly stay perched on the main character's finger for multiple days which was completely unrealistic. This was the main reason I gave the book 3 stars. If an author is trying to present science in a story, then please stick to the facts.… (more)
