Robert W. Mackay

This historical novel by Robert Mackay is very well written and well researched, and tells the story of a World War I soldier in the cavalry. It was a horrible war, and some of the book is difficult to read because it depicts the suffering men and horses had to endure, but I came away from it with a greater understanding of the sacrifices our grandfathers and great grandfathers made during those years.

The story is built around the relationship between a reluctant young soldier and his girl at home, and a personal conflict between the young man and an officer from his home town. Well worth reading!… (more)
