Richard A. Lovett

A quick read and enjoyable. Dated (copyright 1992) and Lovett talks an awful lot about geology and comes off as holier-than-thou and preachy about America's wilderness areas. I'm much more interested in reading about his interactions with other people during his across the county bike ride and his obstacles and how he surmounts them. Flowery descriptions of mountains that go on for several paragraphs were skimmed thru. And I can't help but think that he never really discovers the answers to the questions he poses at the beginning of the book...namely if he can dispose of the Type A scheduled-to-the-max person and just allow himself to enjoy the journey. But with every touring book I read, it just kindles a desire of mine to want to do something like this myself someday.… (more)
