The Heart's Language hit home for me as I know and love many people who are non-verbal. I can relate to the parents struggle to connect with their child, as we rely heavily on spoken language to communicate. I can relate to hearing those around judging for what they don't understand. Yamanaka did a good job of portraying the message that our deepest connections can be found in seeing others for who they are and going out of our comfort zone to meet people where they are and listen to their heart.… (more)

I liked this book because it showed that you can communicate with anyone, no matter the disability if you are open to hearing them. Throughout the book, the boy talked to the trees, the animals, the sea but he could not talk to his parents. He told a blue bird that he wanted to tell his parents he loved them, but nothing came out. At the end of the book, his parents began to listen to him and they created their own language with their son, and he was finally able to express his love for them.

This book is a tear jerker! This book is about a boy who is on the autism spectrum and is unable to communicate with those around him. One night he has a dream. In the dream, a bird comes to him and tells him to speak with the language of his heart. The boy takes what this bird says and finally is able to tell his parents he loves them (this is where the tears start). The book ends with a smile on the boy's face.

One of the best lines I have ever read “speak with language of your heart”. The heart language is about a little boy who suffer from a disability that prevented him from speaking to anyone. He always wanted to express his love to his family and friends, however he could not due to a speech impairment he has. Later in the story a bird visits the boy in his dream guiding him to use the language of his heart. Finally, when the boy used that language, he was able to communicate with others. This will be a great book to read for students in a social study class, to inform them about individuality and that everyone is unique the way they are.… (more)
