Anatomy of a Scientific Discovery: The Race to Find… by Jeff Goldberg
Story of the race to discover endorphins, won by a modestly funded lab in Aberdeen. Quite a technical book, although also paints a clear picture of the importance of the interplay of personalities within and between the teams of investigators. Extraordinary the repetitiveness of the groping forwards that the investigative scientists engage in. Despite initial hopes, so far this discovery has not resulted in a non addictive substitute for morphine.
