This story was inspired by Homer's Odyssey, a classic Greek Tale. While this has elements of the original tale, the author adds her own characters for a new angle on the story. When I was young, I was completely obsessed with Greek Gods and Goddesses so I can imagine a 6th grader finding this book fascinating. I think that Aleta's embarrassment of her drunken mother might be something with which a child could also connect with.

Remarkable and heart-warming stories and photographs from grown-up Canadian childrenof WWII, reminding us of the poverty and tribulations of those days, during which children could still find some fun and mateship.
