Katie Ford is the author of three previous poetry collections: Blood Lyrics, named a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize; Colosseum, recognized as a "Best Book of the Year" by Publishers Weekly and the Virginia Quarterly Review; and Deposition. The recipient of a Lannan Literary show more Fellowship and the Larry Levis Reading Prize, she teaches at the University of California, Riverside. show less

A powerful collection of poems about war and motherhood. It is hard to write a book of poems where the two halves are thematically different collections in their own right, but Ford weaves them together to make a powerful statement, if not an indictment, regarding the sanctity of human lives.
