Not a book that passed through the world unnoticed, but largely (like its author) unremembered. I feel sad when I run across these orphans of the culture. I've read some of his other stuff long ago, and rediscovered him when I found a Kindlebook of his salacious-for-the-times [book:Sam|20512285]; it inspired me to go spelunking for this little tome, and for [book:Mark|3291375] (of which I possess a hardcover!); nothing will convince me to try a re-read of [book:Beulah Land|1751627], though, I can not imagine that going well.
But writing about a gay sailor and a lesbian nurse in 1955 deserves a little corner of the 21st century's attention. So: Pay attention!… (more)
