Trigger warnings: Murder

4/10, this was the first crime novel that I read, and wow did it disappoint so where do I begin with this? The main character, Rose, was not enjoyable to read at all because she was just so annoying and kept shouting all of the time and she did this so much that I nearly wanted to put this book down and give it a DNF but I pushed on hoping that it would get better. It didn't. There were two mysteries that sounded intriguing but they both let me down, the first one was Rose's parents' disappearance and that mystery didn't get anywhere and the second one was when two students were murdered, Rose eventually found the killer but she ruined the evidence by touching it so now no one knows who had the evidence of the murders, how dumb of a move is that. All the other characters weren't that really fleshed out either so I couldn't even care for any of them even if some of them died. This is just book one of a four book series but my library does not have the other three books in the series and I'm doubting that they'll even get them considering how old and obscure this series is. If you like crime novels try The Inheritance Games series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes instead of this novel.… (more)

Jennifer Jones, JJ, killed a ten year old girl and was locked away for her crime. That was six years ago, now the name JJ is once again headline news due to her release from prison. Although detention centre may be a more accurate description then prison, as you can hardly send a ten year old to prison, even for murder.

Now sixteen, JJ has a new name and a new life, with a chance to start fresh from her past actions. There are those who believe she should never be released, sometimes she even believes that herself. But only she knows the true reasons for her actions that day, and only she can decide if she deserves a second chance.

Looking For JJ is a fascinating story of a child murderer, of a girl searching for identity, of a haunting and terrible past. Neglected, ignored and starved for affection, this is a sad and tragic tale told incredibly with compassion and realism through the eyes of a killer, the memories of a ten year old, the hope of a sixteen year old.

Short mystery story. Jack disappeared on the moors a year ago and his girlfriend and friends get together to remember him. Then one mentions hearing Jack's strange wolf like ringtone around the town and they also start seeing his jacket and riding bag. What is going on? Are they being haunted or is it someone's idea of a joke or something else? Fast paced easy read that students up to Year 10 will be able to read as the characters are all about 16 and 17.
