I feel bad for giving this a mere three stars, but in my books three is still "good". This is a really fascinating hard science fiction title, but the game part of it is just not quite up to scratch. It's too slow and heavy - and in that sense a good match for the kind of serious science approach it's taking - but especially with today's standards, it's hard to stomach. I never played the second edition, so that may be a substantially better package overall.

The game setting and the ideas behind Blue Planet are all gold. Shame that it's so hard to approach with its walls of text and a generally very dry presentation, but anyone willing to take the plunge will find a unique vision of the future.… (more)
