Contemporary Romance in Name that Book (September 2016)

Reviews

Rock Chick is the first book in the Rock Series by Kristen Ashley. I simply love this author so much, her writing works for me in every way. She doesn't work for everyone though, if you nit pick books then this author probably won't work for you especially if you want your heroes and heroines to be perfect. Because Kristen Ashley deals with flawed characters, they sometimes make me roll my eyes, have their "blonde" moments but these characters are good to the soul, generous and kind and they deserve love too so I love that KA doesn't write the perfection type characters, I love to see my flaws in characters, I definitely find that I relate to them better. This book I simply LOVED, its outrageous, crazy but so fun and delicious.

Our story starts out with our heroine Indy Savage. She is a cop's daughter, she knows how to handle herself, and how to treat any dangerous situation. She is the owner of a used book store/coffee shop. Indy has been in love with a certain man for most of her life, and even though they practically grew up together, he never returned the love she held for him and she eventually gave up hope on him. When Indy's closest friend and employee, Rose, is in hiding due to the loss of some diamonds, Indy is all about protecting her friend. But then Lee (the man she has been in love with for years) decides that he wants to step in and help her out with her situation. Lee deals with private investigations, has his own team and knows how to handle any situation and isn't a man you want to cross. He has loved Indy for quite a while, but wanted to wait for her to grow up before he took any action. But now Indy is in way over her head, and with dead bodies and explosions everywhere, Lee and Indy will work together while finding a common ground in their new found relationship.

I simply adored ROCK CHICK.....it simply rocked my world in every way. I don't five star books that often but this book had everything and more that I look for in a romance. First off, its a romantic suspense and I simply love those so much and I don't get a chance to read those that much anymore. Then we also have the fact that the characters that we are introduced to are HILARIOUS!! Now first off I want to say that these characters you do NOT take seriously. Some of what does happen in this book is pretty crazy and insane but outrageously funny too. I loved the humor that Kristen Ashley puts in this book. I have to say its the BEST humor I have read from her books so far and I have read quite a few. But these books I just couldn't stop laughing and I am sure people thought I was nuts bursting out in laughter while reading out in public. But boy this was super good and had me full of happy feels.

Now the sex in this book is smokin' which is to be expected when it comes to Kristen Ashley. There is something about her style of writing that will leave you will all those delicious tingles so I never recommend reading or listening to her books while at work or not at home because yeah her books *nodding* are just like that. hehe Now I do want to mention that there is a scene here, that may make some readers uncomfortable. It didn't bother me that much since it didn't happen for a long period of time, however the hero does something to the heroine in bed that some might not agree with and yeah it has issues but even though I was forewarned about this before reading it, there was something about how it was written that for some crazy reason it didn't bug me that much. A little yes, but not as much as I was expecting it to bother me.

Now the interactions between Lee and Indy were so funny, so funny you will fall of your chair laughing. I loved their bantering. Now they know each other pretty well, but haven't seen much of each other in recent years so there is somet catching up to do a bit. They both have been secretly in love with each other but haven't fully shared that with one another. So there is a bit of denial especially on Indy's side of things. I understand though, Lee wasn't very nice when saying he thought of her as a sister....I mean really, that will turn any woman off. But Lee is great at groveling and proving to Indy that he is there for the long haul. He is such an alpha though, whew SUPER Alpha Male in this book, but probably one of my favorites that Ashley has written. And our Indy, she is always getting into trouble and such but she handles everything so well. I love her cool composure in tense situations.

Overall I found Rock Chick to be a fantastic romance that tickles and delights, its a story of action, intrigue, danger and some sweet lovin'!!! ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR!!

Rock Chick Awakening is the first novella in the series as #0.5 and I had no idea that there were so many novella's in this series and has me so excited to get to all of them. Now this story, I am so thrilled to see was written because its Daisy and Marcus' book. I am currently on book four of the series, and Daisy is one of my favorite characters in the series and Marcus' yeah he is a good one too despite some of his side businesses (although we do learn later in the series he goes more legitimate and legal) Daisy is such a lovely gal, southern woman who has had a rough life and this is her story.

Her mother wasn't very good to her, always bringing in strange men into their lives and living off of them as much as she could. But then she met a kind lady when she was thirteen, who gave her a necklace of pearls, and showed her true kindness. And those pearls bought her a ticked from the dump she grew up in and for a fresh start somewhere new. Now she is working as a dancer at a stripper club, and making GOOD money. She is good at what she does, loves nice clothes and is a good woman who is looking for a good man someday. Then she meets Marcus. Marcus is all GQ material, hot and wealthy but she knows that he only has flings and would never want to be with a woman like her. But when she is attacked and raped, Marcus shows his true colors to her and a relationship slowly forms between them. Daisy finds her prince charming who gives her the happily ever after she has always dreamed of.

I found Rock Chick Awakening to be a charming and such a cute romance and the five hours of this audiobook was so endearing and had me smiling the whole way through the story. This book is on the audible romance package, so I highly recommend listening to this novella if you get a chance here. What I love about this book though is seeing the fairytale theme in the story and seeing the true depth behind Daisy and Marcus and seeing their love story evolve. Definitely can't wait to see more of them throughout the series!!

This book was recommended to me because I like angsty romances. It certainly was - for the book's first part, but then the story kind of frittered away. The overarching conflict with another gang trying to take over the motorcycle club's territory wasn't resolved, at least in this book. I was left wondering what happened, but this is partially my fault because I didn't realize this book was part of a series, and I guess that gets resolved in a later book.
Millie and High had three good years, but then she broke them up, leaving him to wonder what happened. Twenty years later, he finally discovers the reason, with lots of tension and angst sprinkled into their relationship. But then the story drags (and this is a long book). I liked both Millie and High?Logan and the other characters in the Chaos MC. The dialogue and setting felt authentic, but the drama with his younger daughter felt slapped in to fill out the story.… (more)

I think it's time to accept, that I simply don't like Kristen Ashley's fantasy books. I keep reading them and keep getting disappointed. I love her contemporary romances and I think I should read only them. I'm sorry, because I really wanted to like it.
