Notice text (30 May): "ON the Second Thursday in the Month of June next, at 4 a Clock P.M. are to be exposed to Sale by Publick Vendue, at Mr. Vardy's the Exchange Tavern in King Street Boston, Sundry Books, with several other Things yet unsold, belonging to the Hon. Col. Shute: Therefore if any Person has borrowed any Books from the said Col. Shute, they are desired forthwith to deliver them to Mr. John Boydell, or if any Person hath lent any, they are also desired to demand them. N. B. The 1st Vol. of Mr. Locks Works in Folio, known to be missing, is suppos'd to be Lent, or rather Stol'n; if the First the Borrower is desired to return it; if the Latter and Sold the Purchaser upon delivering the Book back, shall be paid what he gave for it by said Boydell, and 20s. more on discovering the Person who Sold it."

Shute, facing much opposition to his administration as governor, simply left Massachusetts in early 1723.
